FOUNDATIONS (8000 BC–AD 600)

Students think like historians as they analyze primary sources, write short essays for document-based questions, and take part in a culminating debate. Each reproducible unit contains groups of documents (visual and textual) with differing views, six worksheets (two interpretive, one comparative for each group), a background essay, a timeline, a teacher introduction, student directions, two DBQs with suggestions for writing, and a DBQ scoring guide. The ImageXaminer included on CD-ROM with each unit allows students to view the visual primary sources on a computer (or with an LCD projector), along with analysis questions and background information. Comes with a four-page teacher's guide and 35 eleven-page student guides offering two brief essays that interpret the era from sharply contrasting points of view, and a debate topic.
