DEBATING THE DOCUMENTS

Interpreting Alternative Viewpoints in Four Primary Source Documents

Students think like historians as they analyze sources, debate points of view, and write short essays for document-based questions. Each reproducible unit contains two pairs of documents (one visual pair, one text pair) with differing views, four sharp images (one per document), six worksheets (two interpretive, one comparative for each pair), a one-page background article, a teacher introduction, student directions, a DBQ with suggestions for writing, and a DBQ scoring guide. The ImageXaminer included on CD-ROM with each unit allows students to view the visual primary sources on a computer (or with an LCD projector), along with analysis questions and background information. Set CD-ROMs contain a four-page teacher's guide and reproducible student guides offering two brief essays that interpret the era from sharply contrasting points of view, and a debate topic. Grades 7–12. MindSparks. ©2004–07.
